Are All Kratom Products Organic?

Jemi Fischbach

Buying organic products has become more common in recent decades. With more information becoming public regarding the use of harsh chemicals and pesticides to keep produce looking fresh, people are concerned about their health, seeking organic alternatives.

When it comes to purchasing Kratom, most of the time, the products for sale are organic. Depending on where you buy the Kratom, how organic the product is may change. When you purchase organic Kratom, you can trust that the product is potent and free of any synthetic additives. These contaminants could negatively affect your research.

Kratom, scientifically known as mitragyna speciosa, grows in tropic and sub-tropic climate zones worldwide, with Southeast Asia being the most prominent home for the plant. For centuries, Kratom has been utilized by indigenous populations for its therapeutic effects. These communities claim that chewing on the leaves or drinking tea can help alleviate minor aches and pains, enhance focus, and fend off irritability.

While these claims are not widely accepted by regulatory bodies worldwide, they have triggered researchers to take a deeper dive into the plant’s chemical structure. These research efforts have revealed over 40 active alkaloids are present in Kratom. With so many active compounds, there is an increased interest in researching Kratom, which is best done by purchasing premium, organic products, and doing so independently.

Defining “Organic”

While they know there are some benefits, people who purchase organic products sometimes do not fully understand what it means. Some do not even realize that there are various organic products available and understanding them starts by understanding the labeling convention.

Organic: A clean production cycle is carried out for any food with a simple “organic” label. No fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides are used in the process. Additionally, it can not have been irradiated, genetically modified, or have any artificial additives. These products, however, only require an inspection to be deemed organic, rather than a certification.

Made With Organic Ingredients: If you see a product with this label, it signifies that only 70% of the ingredients have received organic certification. The rest could be synthetic, chemically enhanced, or genetically modified.

USDA Organic: Throughout the production chain, all people and facilities involved must meet the USDA’s minimum requirements. 95% of the product must meet these standards for a certification to be given.

100% Organic: As the name suggests, the entire product must have undergone intensive testing throughout the production process, ensuring only organic substances were used. The USDA must certify all of the ingredients.

While these labels are easy to come by in a grocery store, you won’t find any of them on Kratom products. Even if a reputable retailer sells Kratom, vendors cannot add these labels because the FDA does not classify Kratom as a food or drug for human consumption. Only products that are meant to be consumed can receive one of the various organic labels.

Do Organic Products Have Any Chemicals?

While most organic products have zero chemicals, some chemicals approved by the USDA may be present. Neighboring non-organic farms could also generate trace chemicals in organic products; however, they are no doubt safer than non-organic.

How To Guarantee Top-Quality Kratom

While you may not find Kratom products with organic labeling, it does not mean they aren’t. If you work with a reputable distributor, they almost always ensure their products are entirely natural. If you investigate a Kratom distributor dealer using the following techniques, it can help safeguard you from contaminated products.

Ask them about their processing. If the distributor can outline their processing showing that the same care has been given to their Kratom as to organic food products, you can ensure there will be no chemical additives.

Ask yourself, are they consistent? If a Kratom dealer delivers you consistent products that are high quality, it shows they are running a professional operation that almost always guarantees organic products.

Check if they are fair-trade. Suppose a kratom supplier has a fair-trade operation. In that case, they support local farmers and the environment. These efforts guarantee their products have not undergone chemical processing and are contaminant free. They should be open to speaking about their farmers and growing tactics, so ask as many questions as possible.

Partner With A Reputable Retailer

Once you know you are working with a reputable dealer that ensures their product is organic, you should stay loyal and not buy your product elsewhere.

You don’t want to risk buying a contaminated batch of Kratom as it could jeopardize your research integrity. By supporting these businesses, you can help support growers and communities around the world.
